Subject: COR Auditor Services for School Districts
Dear Former Colleagues,
I know many of you from my role as a Health and Safety Officer for the Surrey School District for twenty-two years. I retired in January 2022, and in March of 2023, I became certified as an External Certificate of Recognition (COR) auditor for the BC Municipal Safety Association (BCMSA).
I am the only Certified External Auditor with the BCMSA who has a deeply rooted knowledge and understanding of the K-12 sector, having worked in two BC public school districts for a combined total of 30 years, and who has been involved in preparing a school district to undergo COR audits for ten consecutive years.
The BCMSA awards the Certificate of Recognition (COR) to employers who are dedicated to proactively improving workplace safety. COR allows employers to assess their health and safety management program and is an invaluable tool when it comes to reducing injuries and accidents in the workplace and improving workplace safety culture. The COR program also rewards employers who pass the COR audit, with a 10% rebate on their annual WorkSafeBC premium.
I am now able to work with School Districts who are interested in becoming COR certified for their safety management system.
The two basic services I offer in this regard are:
1) Gap Analysis
A gap analysis includes a documentation review as a minimum but can also expand to entail mock interviews and/or site observations. A report is provided outlining which audit criteria are met and which need more work.
2) External COR Audit
The external audit involves submission of the Notice of Audit to the BCMSA, start-up and closing meetings with key personnel, documentation review, interviews, site observation tours, use of AuditSoft™ software to compile and tabulate results, and a complete audit report with scores, areas of strength and recommendations for improvement.
If your District opts for the gap analysis initially, I will give a discounted price on an external audit if you choose to have me undertake one for you.
As I am retired my schedule is flexible and I can travel to all corners of the province as required. Since much of the audit can now be done on-line, travel costs are less than previous years when all aspects of the audit had to be done in person. If you are interested in the COR Audit process for school districts, please contact me and we can discuss how it would work in your district.
Warm regards,
Nancy Johnston
